RE: Running lights not working...

Sounds like a case of if a little is good a lot is better..LOL. The contact cleaner we use comes in a spray can. The paste types can easily short out between the contacts in the plug. They are supposed to be applied using something like a cue tip and then cleaned off so the paste cleaner itself doesn't form an electrical path.
We also along with using the spray cleaner use dielectric grease to help prevent further corrosion between maintenance cycles.

RE: Running lights not working...

Time to clean out & inspect the connector. In most cases corrosion in the TV end is the cause. The poor connector sits there under the TV 24/7/365 without a thought collecting all the rain/snow/crud/dirt from the road.
A good cleaning with contact cleaner available at most auto parts stores and Radio Shacks is a good start. If that doesn't fix it it's time to check for loose wire connections in the plugs.

RE: Awning

It's ABS bonded to ABS. ABS can only be solvent welded. You can get the solvent glue from a Fleetwood dealer. It's much easier than trying to use MEK or Acetone to do the job.

RE: need help kind of fast

Well the blue tarp is one thing you don't want to use on any PU. They trap moisture, and generate heat. Beathable is the watch word when using covers on PU's.
As for the delam we've seen it in covered, uncovered, and even in PU stored in garages.

RE: auto propane switch

Paul's description and JJ's addition are correct. Both CYLINDERS need to be open and the lever does close off the empty CYLINDER so it can be removed to be refilled without shutting anything off or relighting anything.
We do however close the valve on the empty cylinder before removing it as there will still be a small amount of propane vapor left in the cylinder that will escape.

RE: Anyone seen one of these?

IIRC this one has been up for auction several times without a buyer.
I get a kick out the seller. He puts a $2900 Buy it now price and then answers a question that the reserve is $2500.

RE: AC works. DC doesn't.

Yup you reversed the wiring. That "red thing" is either an automatic ciruict breaker if it doesn't open or fuse case if it does.
As for blown fuses yes you did. At least one. Before checking them get out your multimeter as fuses have a nasty habit of looking good but being blown. As for their location inside the back of the conveter if they aren't visible on the back.
If the converter is an older Centurion model there will be a 7.5 buss fuse mounted on the actual circuit board that blows for reverse polarity.

RE: Problem with Bunkend Fan/Light Combo

It may be just the duty cycle of the fan. Some aren't designed to run at full speed continuously. But the first thing I'd do is check the voltage at the fan.
See if turning the light on on the unit OR the light it's plugged into shortens the time the fan runs full speed or draws it down immediately.
The 1/4" plugs are only rated for 4 amps and I'm not sure what draw the fan and/or the light in it has.

RE: Furnace solenoid engages, fan comes on, then off-no heat

First thing we do is check the voltage AT THE FAN connections.
Next is check the sail switch to see if it's activating. If it doesn't set the gas valve will not work. If both of them are OK then we usually go to a tech as it's most likely in the valve or control.

RE: need help kind of fast

If you do some searching on ABS roofs you'll find they were an engineering disaster for Fleetwood. Redesigned twice and finally farmed out to a separate supplier that went bankrupt doing warranty repairs. The bumps are called delamination and it's fairly common on ABS roofs, covered or not covered.
When they first started making the ABS roofs they actually sold covers as an option.
Fleetwood got really paranoid when the roofs started failing and even went as far as canceling warranties for people that installed "non approved" awnings for a year or so. So covers weren't allowed.
As for the delamination, we just keep track of it; as it's a cosmetic issue unless it gets large enough to create more sag or advances around the lift arms.
More of a problem is cracking a that can lead to water infiltration in the foam core which can add many pounds and cause roof or lift system failure.

RE: Remote refrigerator thermometer

We "discovered" the indoor/outdoor thermometer to monitor the fridge temps back in the 70's using a regular old wired unit. The door seal conforms to the wire so no air leaks. We've upgraded to using remote sensor units as soon as we found them. A few don't like going through the fridge walls, but most work fine in any location. The best units w've been able to use from the TV to monitor fridge temps when driving. On long days it's nice to have the assurance if the flame blows out we can catch it and relight before everything goes bad in the fridge.

RE: need help kind of fast

I take it we're talking about a Fleetwood/Coleman?
If so the roof gasketing material is EXPENSIVE. It ran 2 years ago at over $7 a foot and the factory glue $20 a tube. The gasket is only available through a Fleetwood dealership. The have a proprietary cross section on both the older triple lip and newer bulb seal and the factory only sells to Fleetwood.
As for the awning rail, again I take it this is a ABS roof with the bonded on awning rail. First thing is to check the gap against a new rail at ant RV dealership. It very unusual for the gap to open. Usually what happens is the cording that provides the diameter to hold the awning in the track degrades and flattens out so the awning pulls out of the rail.

RE: Water Leak - Help!

It's not uncommon for freeze damage to crack fittings and faucets. It's darn near impossible to see the cracks. JMHO but I'd say replacement is the best option. As for the faucet we don't replace with RV types anymore. The faucet is on a standard 4 inch center so there's a world of "real" faucets available at any home center to replace the RV one.
One thing to check is the height if you have a flip over galley to make sure the faucet won't hit the floor.

RE: AC kills generator - followup No. ?

A couple of things to think about:
As gensets age they can lose power, and as A/C's age they can increase their power needs.
We normally use a clamp on AC ammeter on shore power to see the actual draw of an A/C. And yes we have found units that would stall an 2.8 genset.
Have you tried tripping all the breakers except the A/C breaker? We've found some weird loads that folks didn't realize were drawing along with an A/C.

RE: Cooking live lobster question

Another vote for steaming and an agreement with most seafood is overcooked.
The old wives tale about large lobsters being tough is caused by folks boiling them. The larger cross section takes long enough to cook thru during boiling that the meat does get tough. Steam them gently or split and grill and a 6 pounder can be as tender and delicious as a pounder.
Not to mention actually having enough meat to fill me up...LOL

RE: Propane

A few points from the anal me.
Portable propane vessels are called cylinders. That include 14 oz, 1 pound, 5,11,20,30 and even 100 pound vessels.
Fixed mounted propane vessels are called tanks.
ASME rated propane tanks have had overflow devices since at least the mid 1980's which function the same as OPD valves.

RE: Monaco Plant Closings

Back to the original topic:
I noted the plant closing are scheduled for IIRC the 17th of September. I take it that's to allow the units already in build to be finished; and to gear up the replacement facilities.
Having been in a couple of plants where layoffs/closings were announced that far ahead made quality drop considerably. So JMHO but I'd be hard pressed to purchase one of the units still to come off the line.
